Narcissus – A Poem – Day 7

I am here

beneath your skin

waiting for my heart to beat,

drunk on words

spun by your fingers;

deadly, dark and sweet.

The light that pounds

away the sun,

it flickers from my screens,

And I am lost

And I am found

And I am in between

There is no cure for electric heroin,

No placebo for your words,

and I am trapped in tangled thoughts,

Embraced in tangled cords.

In the darkness, I see stars

Voices echo in my brain

Laughter built of 1s and 0s

And need like freighter trains

And in the spaces that I’ve made

Between my world and yours

A howling grows from clacking keys

and doors, and doors, and doors.

Sun

Sky

Earth

Rain

Sweat

Sweet

Laughter

Drip

From

Fingertips

And yet…

And yet.

I’d trade it all.

To be the word upon your lips.
